Colour of Optimism
A blank canvass came from Japan via Athens,
As if by magic odyssey,
Blankness converted into the colour of optimism -
And power of Herculean possibility,
Derived from random children
I canvassed widely in
Belfast
,
A solitary, seasoned teacher led a class of girls
With novice minds and aspiration, to see
"The big picture" - to weave a tangible uniqueness
That will outlive us all.
Bernard Conlon
July 2008,
Written to commemorate the events and combined efforts that led to the Belfast Kids Guernica painting that was completed at the end of June 2008
