In honour of the painting by Pablo Picasso "GUERNICA"

Our Czech children from the Basic Art School in Buštĕhrad painted a picture with the theme of what the Czech republic has lived through and what it lives for at present.

A dominating feature of the painting is a Lidice rose - a symbol of the new life.

In the time when roses bloomed - on 10th June, 1942, the village was burnt, coventrated, men were shot at the place, women were deported to the concentration camps and 82 children died in gas.
These horrible moments of burnt Lidice with deported children, floods from this year, which took homes to people and animals. But all the difficulties have been over and we come towards the lovely sunny life, full of healthy children, music, birds and animals. This is exactly what we want to tell in our picture.

In the picture there is a symbol of Lidice - a rose with the monument where the fire of peace, spreading across the whole picture, burns forever. On the right side - a symbol of our republic - Prague castle, Hradčany, that determines the history of our nation by its gothic cathedral. Next to there is a Roman church of St.George. Under this silhouette there is a baroque church of St. Nicolas and a Gothic Charles Bridge, under the bridge there flows our longest river Vltava, full of fish. Nice but cruel as it was proved last year. Horses running against the stream are the symbol of the power how we overcome the obstacles. Heads of children with open eyes are the future of our nation. All is blended together with music - nymphs with instruments, birds on the tree and everything with sun - a source of life.
