Mukaigaoka Junior High School original gComprehensive Study through Music and Arth is a studying to deepen the thought about peace during the Integrated Study Period. Actual activities are as follows. In the music classes, all the students from the 1st to 3rd grade are divided into 3 groups and each group sings in chorus. After that, they join all (588 students) together. In the art classes, each 3 groups (as mentioned above) make a huge painting to participate in gKIDSf GUERNICAh (International Childrenfs Peace Mural Project). We have planed these activities and put them into action for the Integrated Study Period. Grade 1~ 3 Students cooperate together both in music and art activities. They think why they do these activities and how they can approach the aim of the activities.

| @ In the music activity, students check the meaning of the lyrics so as to deeply feel and enjoy the songs. Japanese language teacher will teach the meaning of the lyrics. Then students can sing the songs heartily. When we participated in the Kidsf Guernica Project, students created 3 peace paintings on huge canvases the same size as Pablo Picassofs gGuernicah, ( 349.3 ~ 776.6cm), which showed his anger for war and the message of peace. Wefll send the 3 paintings to the International Exhibition to send our peace message to the world. |

@ Students tried to think how they can express their gfeelingsh on the pictures to be understood by people from all cultures. Each picture has a different theme so we need to think about peace from many different points of view. Then we taught how to think about peace from the point of view of all the subjects. Participation in the gKidsf Guernicah (International Childrenfs Peace Mural Project) expanded the studentsf viewpoints from ordinary life studying in the past to the global reality. Students could feel to be expanding on what they have studied. We wanted our Integrated Study Period to be a project that encouraged the students to have ambitious dreams. |
@ Now in Japan we are growing up in peace, and the situation is not as dangerous as in many other countries, so it is not easy for us to think about peace objectively. We debated not only peace versus war but also the way of peaceful life or peaceful thought. Through these activities, students can begin to realize the importance of self esteem and understanding other cultures with which have very different values. We tried to make the students think how important it is to be able to live in peace, and let them realize that they are friends, having the same purpose and hoping for a peaceful world. |

@The performances of the gIntegrated Studyh were widely introduced on the color page of Asahi local newspapers 2 weeks ago. There came a lot of participant on the day. The precise information of the gComprehensive Studyh was also noticed on the PTA newspapers several times in advance. On the presentation day we showed 3 peace paintings, the chorus to the accompaniment of the school band, recitation of poems and ensemble of the motion pictures and percussion instruments. Our new style performances were held without chairperson nor explanations.
Students were standing in chorus formations in front of their own pictures. The performances were begun with the music of the school band. The guests were welcomed to the gym by the music. After that they listened to the whole school chorus. And then they watched motion pictures of war and peace image with listening to the ensemble of percussion instrument. They also listened to the recitation of poems. Afterward the introduction of peace paintings was begun. The first picturefs title was gKakegaenonai Inochih (Precious Life). In this picture a fetus is holding the earth. It means the importance of the birth of life and all the lives are precious so they should be equally treated. The picture appeared accompanied by the chorus of gKieta Hachigatsuh(Vanished August). Next one was gOnaji Toki, Onaji Inochih(The Same Time, The Same Life). gThe Root of The Lifeh grows to the light. It showed that all the living things living at the same time were fellows. And it said that it is important for living things to live in hope. The picture appeared with the chorus of gIN TERRA PAXh. The last one was gKibouno Chikarah(A Power Of Hope). The annual ring under the horse showed repeated history and unfinished puzzle showed the problems of the earth. But the horse runs powerfully through the light and tries to reach the world of hope. This picture appeared with the chorus of gSonohitoga Utautokih(When The Person Sings). At the very end, all the students sang together again and finished. Studentsf voice created a great sensation and moved participants to tears. The tears touch studentsf hearts. The people listening poems and music, watching motion pictures and paintings were moved. The students were moved by knowing that they can move other people with their works. We think thatfs the biggest and unexpected result of this project.
