The Recipe for Peace Mural 2003 : This marvelous powerful work was designed and created by kids at the Encinitas Boys and Girls Club, Grisset Branch.  picART is once again  proud to be part of the Kidsf Guernica Global Peace Mural Project and the international exhibition in Greece on the occasion of the 2004 Summer Olympics.

his dynamic mural was featured during the National Anthem
on Kidfs Opening Day  at San Diegofs Petco Park on April 11, 2004

There are three parts to the design of the Recipe for Peace Mural:
On the left side is a broken heart with the world drawn inside; this world is consumed by war with mushroom clouds, missiles and a grievous 9/11 depiction painted in blacks and grays, like the original Guernica.

In the middle is a dove of peace towing a scroll in its talons.  Within the scroll is a poem the kids wrote, which is a simple, yet stunning, recipe for Peace.
On the far right side is a heart containing the healed world, a brilliantly colored depiction of what the world can be like if you follow the Recipe for Peace.

Start with a bowl full of Happiness. Add a whole lot of Love. Pour in a heap of Respect.
Sprinkle with Understanding. Flavor with bunches of Compassion and Kindness.
Cook deep in your Heart for the rest of your life.

The picART 2003 Recipe for Peace Mural

The picART World Peace Mural was created in the spirit of KIDS' GUERNICA by picARTfs class  of 9 - 12 year old children in Encinitas, California.  The kids explored the theme of PEACE FOR THE 21ST CENTURY as the subject matter for art education and cross-cultural understanding.  The Encinitas children also worked in small groups to create designs and concepts, our teaching staff merged their ideas into one design incorporating several concepts. The kids voted on the final design and on any changes, and approached the project with a great deal of enthusiasm, intelligence, compassion, and loyalty.  This is picARTfs second mural for KIDSf GUERNICA , the first, an award winning mural, was created in Carlsbad in 2001.

picART is an art education / youth development program offered in formal collaboration with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside, Encinitas and San Dieguito. picART stands for Partners in Compassion Art Programs. Specially trained professional artists teach a variety of fine arts in Encinitas, Oceanside, Solana Beach; picARTfs classes are also held at Casa de Amparo Childrenfs Home in San Luis Rey, as well as other venues throughout San Diego County.
