This piece was created on August 4 by children, parents and staff of "Denden-mushi, " altogether twenty two. Following the advice of Mr. Kaneda, we separated the group into two; the children under 6 grade worked in the morning, and the high school students worked in the afternoon. As a part of our 'secret' preparation, Mr. Kaneda and the staff attached masking tapes for six different parts on the canvas. After watching Mr. Kaneda attaching masking tapes, the small children started cutting and attaching little pieces of masking tape to the canvas. Having also looked at Mr. Kaneda running a colored line on the canvas, the children happily took their own rollers, ran in different directions on the canvas and filled their own "territorial" corner of the painting. As if to say the canvas was not big enough, they started painting themselves and even made prints on the canvas using their own painted bodies. Expressing themselves freely, as if messing about in the mud, the children became "little green monsters." When all the little pieces of the tape were taken off, beautiful shapes appeared all over the canvas. The high school students took off the masking tapes in those six parts, and there they drew their unique pictures at their own pace, occasionally chatting with each other. The staff members also drew whatever they liked.
Just as the theme of "KIDS' GUERNICA," "peace" indicates, everybody was happy, and it was a really peaceful moment when we were creating this artwork together. "Having fun together" is surely one step towards creating peaceful world.
